8. Security Considerations

Security issues are not explicitly discussed in this memo.

In an SNMP implementation, authentication is the mechanism by which an SNMP message is identified as an authentic SNMP message for a particular SNMP community. The method by which an implementation identifies authentic SNMP messages is called an authentication scheme. While some implementations may support only a trivial authentication service that identifies all SNMP messages as authentic, effective management of administrative relationships requires authentication services that, by the use of encryption or other techniques, can identify authentic SNMP messages with a high degree of certainty.
