7. Conformance

In order to provide some basis for interoperability, this section specifies the minimum requirements that an SNMP implementation must meet in order to claim conformance to this RFC.

7.1. Agent Conformance​

An SNMP agent must:

  • accept get, get-next, and set requests, and return a get-response PDU.
  • support operation over UDP using the well-known port 161.
  • implement the MIB defined in [5].
  • generate trap PDUs when appropriate, using the well-known port 162.

7.2. Management Station Conformance​

A management station (manager) must:

  • generate get, get-next, and set requests.
  • accept get-response PDUs.
  • accept trap PDUs at port 162.
