4. FILE TRANSFER FUNCTIONS

The communication between the user and server is intended to be an alternating dialogue. As such, the user should wait for this confirming reply before sending the next command. The notable exception to this rule is aborts which may be sent at any time.

The FTP commands specify the parameters for the data connection (data port, transfer mode, representation type, and structure) and the nature of file system operation (store, retrieve, append, delete, etc.). The user-PI sends these commands to the server-PI over the control connection, which is a TCP connection.
