1. Introduction

Section 4.8 of [RFC7854] defines BMP statistics types for observing major events on a monitored router, and [RFC8671] defines several BMP statistics types for Adj-RIB-Out. More refined route monitoring is useful for operational maintenance and troubleshooting.

This document defines new BMP Gauge statistics. Their applicability to Adj-RIB-In, Adj-RIB-Out, and Loc-RIB is summarized in Section 4. The BMP Statistics Report message format remains unchanged from [RFC7854].

1.1. Requirements Language

The key words "MUST", "MUST NOT", "REQUIRED", "SHALL", "SHALL NOT", "SHOULD", "SHOULD NOT", "RECOMMENDED", "NOT RECOMMENDED", "MAY", and "OPTIONAL" are interpreted as described in BCP 14 [RFC2119] [RFC8174] when they appear in all capitals. In this document, the key words stress operational importance and are not required as formal implementation requirements.
