Studying repeat offenders is methodologically difficult, since excitable people may leave the IETF after repeated percussive persuasion. Still, recidivism is believed to compare reasonably with the United States prison-system figure cited by [RECIDIVISM].

One possible reason for the relatively low observed rate is the educational value of footguns. Once people realize that the hole in their foot resulted from ignoring percussive persuasion, they may be more inclined to heed advice in later rounds.
