7. Future Evolution of CBOR

This section discusses how CBOR may evolve in the future.

7.1. Extension Points​

CBOR provides several extension points:

  • Simple values (0-19 and 32-255 are available for registration)
  • Tag numbers (through IANA registry)
  • Additional information values 28-30 in major type 7

7.2. Curating the Additional Information Space​

The additional information values 28, 29, and 30 in major type 7 are reserved for future use and should be allocated carefully.
