7. IANA Considerations​

This document requests several IANA actions.

7.1. UDP Port​

IANA has assigned UDP port 6081 to Geneve.

7.2. Geneve Option Class Registry​

IANA has created a new registry called "Geneve Option Class". This registry manages the 16-bit Option Class values.

  • Registration Procedure: Expert Review.
  • Reference: [RFC8926]

Initial assignments:

  • 0x0000-0x00FF: IETF Review (Experimental)
  • 0x0100-0xFEFF: IETF Review (Standards Action)
  • 0xFF00-0xFFFF: Experimental / Local Use

7.3. Geneve Option Type Registry​

IANA allows each Option Class owner to maintain their own registry for the 8-bit Type field within that class. For IETF-assigned classes, IANA may maintain the registry.
