6.3. Fast Track
The Fast Track registration process provides a simplified registration path for certain types of URN namespaces. This process is suitable for:
- Organizations with well-defined identifier systems already in place
- Urgent use cases requiring rapid deployment
- Existing identifier schemes with mature management processes
Key features of the Fast Track process:
- Simplified review: Reduced time requirements for community review
- Pre-approved categories: Certain categories of namespaces can receive faster approval
- Fewer documentation requirements: While a complete template is still required, the review process is more streamlined
Fast Track registration must still meet all technical requirements and ensure long-term stability and persistence of the namespace. The main difference is in the speed and depth of the review process, not a reduction in technical standards.
Typical scenarios for Fast Track:
- Migrating existing, widely-used identifier systems to the URN framework
- Official identifier systems of governments or international organizations
- Identifier schemes with international standard support (such as ISBN, ISSN)
