9. IANA Considerations
IANA has added a reference to this RFC in the AXFR (252) row of the "Resource Record (RR) TYPEs" subregistry of the "Domain Name System (DNS) Parameters" registry.
DNS Parameters Registry
The DNS Parameters registry is maintained by IANA and contains various subregistries related to DNS protocol parameters. The relevant subregistry for AXFR is "Resource Record (RR) TYPEs", which lists all defined DNS RR TYPEs and QTYPEs.
AXFR entry:
- Type: AXFR
- Value: 252 (decimal)
- Meaning: Authoritative Zone Transfer
- Reference: RFC 1035, RFC 5936
This document updates the reference for the AXFR query type to include RFC 5936, thereby providing a more complete and accurate specification of the AXFR mechanism.
No New Registrations
This document does not request any new registrations in the IANA DNS Parameters registry. It only updates the reference for an existing entry (AXFR, type 252).
Considerations for Future Extensions
If future documents define extensions or modifications to the AXFR protocol, those documents SHOULD follow the IANA considerations guidelines specified in RFC 5395 [RFC5395], "Domain Name System (DNS) IANA Considerations".
Any new query types, RR types, or protocol parameters related to AXFR should be registered with IANA according to the procedures defined in RFC 5395 and should reference this document (RFC 5936) as the base specification for AXFR.
