18. IANA Considerations

Since TURN is an extension to STUN [RFC5389], the methods, attributes, and error codes defined in this specification are new methods, attributes, and error codes for STUN. IANA has added these new protocol elements to the IANA registry of STUN protocol elements.

The codepoints for the new STUN methods defined in this specification are listed in Section 13.

The codepoints for the new STUN attributes defined in this specification are listed in Section 14.

The codepoints for the new STUN error codes defined in this specification are listed in Section 15.

IANA has assigned SRV service name "turn" for TURN over UDP or TCP, and service name "turns" for TURN over TLS.

IANA has created a TURN channel number registry, initially populated as follows:

  • 0x0000 through 0x3FFF: Reserved and cannot be used since they conflict with the STUN header.

  • 0x4000 through 0x7FFF: These numbers are available for use by TURN implementations.

  • 0x8000 through 0xFFFF: Unassigned.

Any changes to this registry must be made through an IETF Standards Action.
