9. IANA Considerations

9.1. VERSION

IANA has created a registry for VERSION field values. The VERSION value used in this specification is "1". Future VERSION values MUST be assigned using the "Standards Action" method as described in [RFC5226].

9.2. SD-IDs

IANA has created a registry for SD-IDs. The following SD-IDs are registered in this document:

  • timeQuality
  • origin
  • meta

New SD-IDs and their associated PARAM-NAMEs MUST be registered using the "IETF Review" method as described in [RFC5226].

An SD-ID can be registered without registering any associated PARAM-NAMEs. However, PARAM-NAMEs MUST NOT be registered without an associated SD-ID. The SD-ID MUST be registered first, or an SD-ID and associated PARAM-NAMEs MUST be registered at the same time. PARAM-NAMEs MUST only be registered for an already registered SD-ID. PARAM-NAMEs MUST be unique within a specific SD-ID.

The same PARAM-NAME may be registered for different SD-IDs. The registration information for SD-IDs MUST include the following:

  • SD-ID name
  • A description of the purpose of the SD-ID
  • Whether or not PARAM-NAMEs are defined

If PARAM-NAMEs are defined, the registration information MUST include:

  • PARAM-NAME
  • A description of the semantics of the PARAM-NAME
  • A PARAM-VALUE data type and, if applicable, allowed values
