13. Changes Since RFC 3548

RFC 4648 obsoletes RFC 3548. The main changes clarify line feeds, padding, non-alphabet characters, canonical encoding, and the named alphabets for Base64, Base64url, Base32, Base32hex, and Base16.

The goal of these clarifications is to reduce implementation differences and make future protocol specifications more precise when they refer to base encodings.
