7. Security Considerations
RTCP XR packets have the same security considerations as standard RTCP packets. The security of RTCP is discussed in Section 9 of RFC 3550 [9].
RTCP XR blocks may contain information that could be considered sensitive. In particular, the VoIP Metrics Report Block contains network and voice quality metrics. An attacker could use these metrics to identify bottlenecks and launch denial-of-service attacks. It is recommended to use encryption mechanisms such as SRTP [2] to protect RTCP XR packets from unauthorized access.
The security of SDP signaling itself is beyond the scope of this document.
