9. Security
Lower layer protocols may eventually provide all the security services that may be desired for applications of RTP, including authentication, integrity, and confidentiality. These services have recently been specified for IP. Since the need for a confidentiality service is likely to arise first in many applications, the RTP specification includes definitions of how to apply encryption.
9.1 Confidentiality
Confidentiality means that only the intended receiver(s) can decode the received packets; for others, the packet contains only random data.
9.2 Authentication and Message Integrity
Authentication and message integrity services are not defined at the RTP protocol level since they are expected to be provided by lower layer protocols.
