4. Advertising IPv4 NLRI with the MP_REACH_NLRI Attribute
The MP_REACH_NLRI attribute can be used to advertise IPv4 Network Layer Reachability Information. The attribute uses the IPv4 Address Family Identifier (Address Family Identifier value set to 1).
When the MP_REACH_NLRI attribute is used to advertise IPv4 NLRI, the next hop information would be carried in the Network Address of Next Hop field of the attribute.
A BGP speaker can use this attribute to advertise to its peer a feasible route whose advertisement wouldn't have been possible by using conventional BGP-4 mechanisms, as the route may have the next hop that is of a different network layer protocol than the associated Network Layer Reachability Information.
