6. Acknowledgments

The author acknowledges the contributions of the following individuals to the NTP specification and implementation: Matt Mathis, Dennis Ferguson, Keith Sklower, Phill Gross and Dennis Ritchie provided valuable advice and assistance in the design and validation of the NTP protocol and clock selection algorithms. Various implementations have been constructed by Dennis Ferguson (University of Toronto), Lars Mathiesen (University of Copenhagen), Louis Mamakos (University of Maryland), Scott McCann (University of Maryland), John Oakley (University of Edinburgh), Dave Mills (University of Delaware), Jeff Mogul (DEC WRL), Dennis Ritchie (AT&T Bell Laboratories), Louis Mamakos (Advanced Computer Communications), Keith Sklower (University of California, Berkeley), Phill Gross (Advanced Network & Services), Dennis Jennings (NSF), Marc Weiss (NIST), David Allan (NIST), Dennis Kuker (IBM Research) and Dennis Ferguson (University of Toronto).

Particular thanks are due Dennis Ferguson, who contributed the clock selection algorithm now incorporated in NTP Version 3 and who designed and implemented the version of NTP now running on the Altair 8800 series machines, and Keith Sklower, who adapted the NTP Version 2 implementation for use with the Berkeley Unix 4.3 Tahoe release. The careful review and suggestions of Martha Steenstrup (BBN) and Matt Mathis (PSC) are also gratefully acknowledged.
