6. Host Implementation​

In this section we discuss how PMTU Discovery is implemented in host software. This is not a specification, but rather a set of suggestions.

The issues include:

  • What layer or layers implement PMTU Discovery?

  • Where is the PMTU information cached?

  • How is stale PMTU information removed?

  • What must transport and higher layers do?
