3. JSContact Version 2.0

This document redefines the uid property of a Card object to be optional. Other aspects of the property definition are unchanged. Because this changes JSContact compatibility semantics, the major version becomes "2.0".

Implementations MUST create JSContact data that complies with version "2.0" or a later registered version, and MUST set the Card object's version property to that version. They MUST NOT reject a Card object without uid as invalid unless another document specifies otherwise or unless the Card version property has value "1.0".

Any valid JSContact Card version "1.0" is also valid under version "2.0", so existing JSContact data does not need migration. This document does not redefine the vCard UID property.
