5. Security Considerations

Security needs for SR P2MP Policy ping are the same as in RFC 9960, RFC 6425, and RFC 8029. SR P2MP Policy ping is susceptible to the same three attack vectors described in Section 5 of RFC 8029, and the same mitigation procedures and recommendations apply.

RFC 6425 security considerations also apply, especially the RFC 4379 recommendation to regulate LSP ping traffic sent to the control plane. To avoid potential Denial-of-Service attacks, implementations are RECOMMENDED to regulate that traffic, and a rate limiter SHOULD be applied to the well-known UDP port allocated for this service.
