1. Introduction

RFC 9961 defines MPLS OAM extensions for Segment Routing (SR) Point-to-Multipoint (P2MP) Policy ping and traceroute. It applies only to Replication Segments (Replication-SIDs) that use MPLS encapsulation, and does not cover SRv6.

The mechanism verifies data-plane connectivity for active and backup candidate paths (CPs) and their P2MP tree instances (PTIs). It builds on RFC 6425 P2MP MPLS OAM and RFC 9960 SR P2MP Policy concepts.
