1.1. Convention and Terminology

Key Terminology

• CA (Certificate Authority): An entity that issues certificates.
• RA (Registration Authority): An optional PKI component to which a CA may delegate certain management functions.
• KGA (Key Generation Authority): An optional PKI component that can generate key pairs on behalf of end entities.
• EE (End Entity): The entity that requests and uses certificates.
