Questa specifica definisce JSON Pointer, una sintassi di stringa (string syntax) per identificare un valore specifico all'interno di un documento JavaScript Object Notation (Notazione degli oggetti JavaScript, JSON) [RFC4627]. JSON Pointer è progettato per essere facilmente espresso come valori di stringa JSON e come identificatori di frammento (fragment identifiers) di Uniform Resource Identifier (Identificatore uniforme di risorse, URI) [RFC3986].
