1. Introduction

RFC 9962 describes LISP-Decent, an Informational design for decentralizing the LISP Mapping System. Instead of relying only on a third-party Mapping System Provider (MSP), participating xTRs can also act as Map-Resolvers and Map-Servers, maintaining distributed mapping state and trusting each other through the authentication and authorization procedures of RFC 9301 and ECDSA-AUTH.

The design makes no fundamental LISP protocol changes and adheres to RFC 9301. The example IP addresses in the document are for lab and documentation use and should not be copied into real deployments.
